Employee Theft and the Small Business Retailer

How often do you as a business owner or manager think about whether your employees may be stealing from you?employee theft

As compared to larger retailers, many smaller business owners and operators may not think that employee theft is a large contributor to profit loss. The fact is that although it may be true based on the number of incidents, often the losses are more devastating to the smaller retailer.

It is important to have trust in your employees; however one should not have blind trust.  Although the small minority of any employee base becomes dishonest, that one “bad apple” can spoil your profits. Any loss of profits against a smaller business owner with fewer storefronts and lower revenue opportunities will have a more difficult time making up that lost profit.
